Dashing Through The Snow ~ At The Historic 320 Guest
Ranch by Ken Ellens
(Gallatin Gateway, Montana) In a two-horse
open sleigh. O'er the fields we go . a laughing all the way . to the
Wassail tent for warming, refreshments, stories and more . yes sleighing
at 320 Guest Ranch ... it perfect for winter family lore ..
It's winter and that means a whole lot
more than skiing on Lone Mountain. It means sleighing at the historic
320 Guest Ranch.
The 320 offers sleigh rides to
accommodate everyone - the whole family, including grandpa and grandma
too. Sleigh bells ring as the horses guide the open sleigh through the
pristine snow-covered pasturelands of the ranch, along side the Gallatin
and up through the fields. It may be a twilight sleigh ride when the
snow appears blue-white and the crisp evening air is filled with the
sounds of sauntering horses and, if inspired, a winter carol or two.
And everyone on the sleigh is cozy -
wrapped up in thick wool sleigh blankets and maybe cuddling up to loved
ones. All the while enjoying a classic19th century winter experience
smack-dab at the advent of the 21st. If Norman Rockwell were alive
today, he'd paint the sleighing scene at 320, for sure.
At the warming tent hot mulled cider
awaits, along with steaming chef-made chili, tasty nibbles and a even
glass of wine for mom and dad. Sleighing works up a hearty appetite,
after all. Your wrangler might be coaxed into telling the sleighers
stories of ranch adventures and a tall tale or two. He might even treat
you a bit of cowboy poetry on an exceptionally good ride.
Then it's back to the sleigh for the
final trek to the main ranch, to the warmth of a roaring campfire and
even more seasonal beverages in the 320 Saloon or dinner in the 320
Ranch Steak House. If you'd like, round out the evening shooting a game
of pool or two . or stay the night in one of 320's modern cabin
accommodations.
The 320 Guest Ranch sleigh rides are
$32 for adults and $18 for children 12 and under (under 3 are free).
Sleigh rides begin at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Special 9:00 p.m. ride
and Sunday sleigh rides are available during peak season.
